Rooftop Prince

I watched this drama on Hulu

This drama tugged at my heart like no drama has done since Coffee Prince and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.  It plays the heart strings so well!!  It made me full on start bawling at one point.  But don’t get me wrong, it’s not a depressing drama at all.  It’s really got it all, action, suspense, mystery, humor, romance, magic.  It’s a time traveling drama, so it is also partly a period piece.  It was a very well rounded drama that didn’t just focus on only one emotion or one genre.  I enjoyed it all the way through and never felt bored.  I highly recommend it to anyone!!  5 out of 5 stars for me!!

Synopsis:

Okay this one is complicated, so here we go… Lee Gak is a crowned prince in the Joseon era who had a wife, the crown princess Hwa Yong.  It appears that someone has murdered the crown princess and Lee Gak is in a rage searching for who it was.  During that search he is somehow magically teleported to the future where he learns that he, the crown princess, the crown princess’ younger sister Bu Yong, and a mortal enemy have all been reincarnated 300 years into the future.  When Lee Gak first arrives in the future with his three sidekicks (royal guards), they appear out of nowhere in the living room of a young woman named Park Ha.  Obviously in shock, Park Ha thinks they are crazy people at first, but eventually ends up helping them and allowing them to stay with her in her rooftop apartment.  Hilarity ensues as they all try to learn about the world that has changed tremendously since the Joseon era 300 years ago.  Lee Gak runs into the reincarnation of the crown princess, Hong Se Na, who is coincidentally the step-sister of Park Ha.  Hong Se Na also thinks him to be a crazy person at first since he keeps calling her crown princess and chasing after her and she has no idea what he is talking about.  Through her however, she gets connected to the family of his own reincarnation, Yong Tae Yong, who has been missing for quite some time and believed to be dead.  When the grandmother sees him, she is overjoyed, thinking that her grandson is still alive and she has found him.  At first he tells her that he is not Yong Tae Yong, but later he decides to pretend to be him in order to be close to Hong Se Na (who works for the family) because he believes if he marries her in the future and recreates the past it will reveal who was behind her murder.  Things start to become complicated when Yong Tae Yong’s half brother Yong Tae Moo, who has a dark secret about Yong Tae Yong and his disappearance,  knows that Lee Gak is lying and is not really who he says he is.  Lee Gak also begins to develop feelings for Park Ha, which makes matters even more confusing.  As the drama unfolds he begins to learn that so many things he thought were true about his life in the past were not and what is revealed to him about the murder of the crown princess is definitely not what he expected.  You will not want to miss the shocking twist at the end of this drama!!
